Bringing the Shark Cage program for Young Women back to Central NSW in 2021

In 2017, young women at Nyngan High School were given an opportunity to participate in a newly developed Shark Cage workshop for Young Women.  This was an initiative of Mission Australia to bring Ursula to the region to train workers in the Shark Cage framework, educate the local community about domestic violence and deliver an innovative new Shark Cage program for Young Women.  The program was an early prototype of the 7-week Shark Cage Program for Young Women: A Human Rights Approach to Gender Violence and Healthy Relationships.  Evaluations from the one-day workshop helped inform the development of the comprehensive program that is available today and Ursula would like to thank the young women of Nyngan for their enthusiasm and contribution to the development of the program

In 2021, Mission Australia have made it possible for Ursula to visit the region again and train more professionals to work with women and families struggling with the impacts of family violence and to train youth specific workers and teachers in becoming accredited facilitators in The Shark Cage Program for Young Women.

Accredited facilitators can run The Shark Cage Program for Young Women in local High Schools and other youth settings, offering a powerful, sustainable and community driven gender violence prevention initiative for the Dubbo region and many small towns in and around central NSW.

Ursula is looking forward to visiting and working with the communities and would like to thank Mission Australia for making this possible.
